Pride PartiesGirl's Night OUT
"It's one life and there's no return
And no deposit
One life, so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a damn
Till you can say:
Hey, world I am what I am!"

- Jerry Herman, La Cage Aux Folles

Why is it that we save up all of our pride and spirit for one month of the year? True, there are more bars, clubs and parties than ever to satisfy the amazon in you year-round, but the best of the best parties are always crammed into the rainbow month of June, usually into the last week, and all on the same nights, making it hard for a woman in the know to choose exactly where to find her new dirty-dancing life-partner. Here's a guide to the most rockin' of the bashes.

1Friday, June 27
On the prowl for proud beautiful women? SheScape and Meow Mix, the two biggest names in lesbian parties, have paired up and their Kittyscape will rock Metronome with the power of Pride. The dreamy Lizerace deejays your body and soul into lesbo heaven on two dancing levels. You can party heartily knowing that the proceeds from this bash will benefit Heritage of Pride, the folks who organize the official annual pride events like the rally and march.

Show off that sexy farmer's tan -- you know, from parading yourself illegally down Fifth Avenue in the Annual Dyke March (5pm, starting @ Bryant Park) -- at two of the hottest parties in town. The Old Standby: The Center's 7th Annual Lesbian Pride Dance. They do it right every year, packing 'em in and pumping 'em up @ Irving Plaza. And The New Style: SOS New York & Girl Bar Los Angeles throw the first of their two pride parties tonight (the second party is the Pride Tea Sunday, 4pm @ VIP Club). Sample what the West Coast Sapphic crowd gets on a regular basis @ The Madison with DJs Flirt and Terri Lutton and the Girl Bar's go-go dancers.

Start early and closer to nature at Dangerous Curves 3, the annual outdoor dyke dance. Friends of mine met there two years ago who are now married and raising kids together... Will you tango with your future mate at Dangerous Curves? The music, food and drink prime you to dance the night away, and all the proceeds benefit the Lesbian Outreach Project of the NYC Gay & Lesbian Anti-Violence Project. Later that evening... SheScape strikes again with The Main Event @ The Roxy. Touted as the largest Pride party in NYC for women -- girl, is that ever an understatement. Every woman who ever dreamt of kissing her best friend is shaking her love thing at this shindig. This year you'll find two DJ's, go-go dancers, and the fabulous Sandy B singing her dance hit "Make The World Go Round." The vibe from this evening (and the women you'll take home) will last you 'til it's time to pump it up again in Gay Pride Month next year.
